About Dr. Hullander

R. Michael Hullander, MD, is medical director and partner at Pacific Pain Physicians in Santa Barbara, California. Dr. Hullander is board-certified in anesthesiology and the subspecialty of pain management. His passion for helping patients break free of their pain not only inspires him in his clinical work at Pacific Pain Physicians, but also in his scientific research pursuits. He has shared his findings with his peers in numerous publications.

Dr. Hullander began his medical career as an undergraduate student at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He earned his medical degree at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland. Between medical school and his residency, Dr. Hullander served as U.S. Navy diving medical officer. Upon completion of his service, he performed an anesthesiology and pain medicine residency at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California. Prior to moving to Santa Barbara, he served as director of the Pain Medicine Center at the Naval Medical Center.

Dr. Hullander enjoys being active with numerous medical and professional organizations, including the International Intervention Society, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, the Central Coast Medical Association, the California Society of Anesthesiologists, the California Medical Association, the American Medical Association and the North American Neuromodulation Society.
