Dr. Untal began his medical journey at age 18 when he enlisted as a medic in the United States Air Force. Over ten years of service, including active duty and reserve roles during the Gulf War, shaped his deep sense of discipline, service, and commitment to patient care. He later earned his undergraduate degree from California State University, Sacramento, and completed medical school at Ross University School of Medicine.
He went on to complete his residency in anesthesiology at Case Western Reserve University Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, where he discovered a strong passion for the field of pain management. Dr. Untal then pursued a specialized fellowship in pain management at the University of California, Davis.
Before joining Pacific Pain Physicians, Dr. Untal practiced interventional pain management in San Luis Obispo, gaining extensive experience with procedures and therapies designed to reduce pain and restore function.
