R-Michael-HullanderR. Michael Hullander, MD

Dr. Hullander is the Medical Director of Pacific Pain Physicians and a partner in Anesthesia Associates of Santa Barbara. He is board certified in both Pain Management and Anesthesiology by the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

After completing his undergraduate degree at Duke University in 1981, Dr. Hullander received his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Bethesda. He then served as a Diving Medical Officer in the US Navy before completing his residency in anesthesiology and pain medicine at the Naval Hospital in San Diego. Since completing his specialty training, he has been active in both clinical and research activities.

Dr. Hullander was the director of the pain clinic at the Naval Regional Medical Center San Diego before moving to Santa Barbara in 1996.

Ralph-D-MozingoRalph D. Mozingo, DO

Dr. Mozingo is a founding partner of Pacific Pain Physicians and is a member the Anesthesia Associates Medical Group of Santa Barbara. A diplomate of both the American Board of Anesthesiology as well as the American Academy of Pain Management, he has over ten years of experience in the field of interventional pain medicine.

After completing his undergraduate education at UCLA, Dr. Mozingo received his medical degree from Southern University of Health Sciences in Florida. He then spent his internship year at the Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center and went on to serve three years as an E.R. Physician and Air Evacuation Officer for the US Army in Germany. He completed his residency in anesthesiology and pain medicine at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.and the Naval Medical Center in San Diego.

Dr. Mozingo served as the director of the pain clinic at Madigan Army Medical Center in Washington, DC, before moving to Santa Barbara in 1999.

Dr. David PiresDavid Pires, DO

Dr. Pires began his career in the health field at the age of 18 as a Certified Personal Trainer. His early success lead him to a position as a trainer at the prestigious Michael Johnson’s Personal Training Studio where he worked with top athletes. His interest in the field prompted a position with a Physical Therapy group, working with patients to regain function and strength after various injuries and surgeries.

After completing his undergrad work at UC Santa Cruz, he then attended medical school at Western University in Pomona, CA. He completed a transitional rotating Internship at San Bernardino County Medical Center followed by Anesthesia Residency at Riverside County Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Pires recognized the value of incorporating his background in functional restoration and fitness into his medical practice and after his anesthesia residency he chose to accept a fellowship position with the Prestigious Cedars Sinai Medical Center Dept. of Anesthesia, Dept. of Pain Medicine.

After completing his formal training, he was recruited by the Kaiser and played a key role in bringing his department’s rating from 3rd to 1st place , making it one of the top ranked Pain Management centers in the Kaiser system.

He is currently on staff at Cottage Hospital and remains affiliated with Riverside County Medical Center and Cedars Sinai Medical Center, where he contributes and lectures to the residency and fellowship programs. Dr. Pires’ current pain medicine knowledge, as well as his utilization of the latest treatments and techniques has proven to be a valuable asset to the patient’s in our community.

Britney is a Physician Assistant who joined Pacific Pain Physicians in 2012. She began her education at the University of Pittsburgh where she studied bioscience and gained invaluable clinical experience while volunteering within the UPMC hospital system in Pittsburgh, PA. She graduated with honors in 2009 with a Bachelor’s Degree in the Biological Sciences, a Minor in Chemistry, and a certificate in Conceptual Foundations of Medicine. She then started her graduate education at Salus University in Philadelphia. Not only did she complete multiple clinical rotations in the Pennsylvania and New York area, but she also attended academic conferences and participated as a volunteer in community events during her training. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and was awarded a Master of Medical Science degree in 2012. Britney became board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, and re-located to Santa Barbara shortly after with her fiancé who is also a physician assistant in the field of orthopedics. She is a current member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and California Academy of Physician Assistants and sees patient’s in both the Santa Barbara and Templeton offices where she looks forward to treating patients with compassionate care.

Matt is a Physician Assistant who joined Pacific Pain Physicians in 2013. He attended Duquesne University, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor’s Degree in the Health Science. He then started his graduate education at Duquesne University. He completed multiple clinical rotations in the Pennsylvania and an orthopedic rotation in Colorado. He graduated with a Master of Physician Assistant Studies in 2010. Matt became board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, and re-located to Santa Barbara shortly after. He is a current member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and California Academy of Physician Assistants and sees patient’s in both the Santa Barbara and Templeton offices.

Jamie is a Physician Assistant who joined Pacific Pain Physicians in 2011. She has worked as a Board Certified Physician Assistant since 1999. She graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science from the University of Arkansas, during which time she won several NCAA National Championships as a distance runner. She completed her Physician Assistant studies at Nova Southeastern University in Florida, graduating with honors. She worked in orthopedics prior to joining Pacific Pain Physicians. She grew up in Santa Barbara and is married to a Physician Assistant, in addition to being the mother of three. Jamie sees patients at both the Santa Barbara and Templeton locations.

Barbara is a Physician Assistant who joined Pacific Pain Physicians in 2016. She began her education at University of California at Santa Barbara and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Psychology.   She returned to school and obtained an Associate of Science degree and was licensed by the American Physical Therapy Board as a Physical Therapist Assistant since 1997. She worked in the inpatient, outpatient, skilled nursing facility and home health settings throughout the years.   Barbara pursued her specialized training from the Wound Care Education Institute and was Wound Care Certified by the National Alliance of Wound Care in 2005. She has a passion for healing and an insatiable drive for knowledge which motivated her to return to graduate school at Pacific University in Oregon where she was awarded a Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies. She became board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, and returned to the Santa Barbara area in 2016. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the California Academy of Physician Assistants as well as the Santa Barbara Medical Society.
